General Dhiraj Seth Awards Yoddha Seva Samman to Four Indian Army Veterans for Continued National Service
During a recent visit to Lucknow, Chief of the Army Staff, General Dhiraj Seth, awarded the Yoddha Seva Samman (YSS) to four eminent veterans of the Indian Army. This prestigious honor acknowledges their significant societal contributions after their military service concluded. The award celebrates those who continue to serve the nation in diverse fields such as national security, healthcare, education, humanitarian efforts, agriculture, sports, environmental conservation, and veteran welfare.
The Yoddha Seva Samman is guided by the motto "Karm Se Gaurav, Seva Se Vijay," which translates to Honor Through Action, Victory Through Service. It represents the enduring commitment of a soldier, highlighting those who carry forward military values like discipline, courage, and selflessness into societal contributions that impact communities positively.
In his address, General Dhiraj Seth emphasized that a soldier's duty never truly ends. Although their formal military service might conclude, the principles of duty, integrity, and service continue to guide them. The award, he noted, honors veterans who have consistently contributed to public welfare and community leadership.

Among those recognized was Major General Harsh Kakar (Retd), celebrated for his work in national security and strategic thought. Post his distinguished military career, including service in United Nations peacekeeping missions, he has been actively involved in shaping India's strategic dialogue as a Founder Member and Vice Chairman of STRIVE India. Major General Kakar continues to enrich discussions on defense, geopolitics, and national security through his writings, lectures, and analyses.
Colonel Arvind Singh Kushwaha (Retd) was awarded for his exceptional contributions to healthcare and medical education. Following his retirement, he played a crucial role in establishing AIIMS Nagpur and enhancing healthcare infrastructure. His significant efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic in Maharashtra and his role in developing medical colleges in Arunachal Pradesh have left a lasting impact on public health and medical education, showcasing his continued commitment to national service.

Naib Subedar Radhey Shyam (Retd) was acknowledged for his outstanding humanitarian initiatives. Motivated by compassion and duty towards fellow veterans and the needy, he established an old-age home using his personal resources. The home offers shelter, food, and medical care to ex-servicemen, war widows, and economically disadvantaged individuals. His relentless dedication has garnered widespread respect and numerous awards for his social welfare efforts.
Risaldar Major (Honorary Captain) Vijay Kumar (Retd) was honored for his contributions to veteran welfare and youth empowerment. He founded a Sainik Library and Motivation Centre, providing free career counseling, study materials, and computer training to aspiring youth and ex-servicemen. His efforts have helped many young individuals prepare for competitive exams and pursue meaningful careers, while also aiding the rehabilitation and growth of the veteran community.

The Yoddha Seva Samman underscores the Indian Army's belief that the spirit of service extends beyond retirement. By honoring veterans who continue to contribute significantly in civilian life, the Army aims to inspire both active personnel and the broader society to appreciate the lasting value of service, leadership, and a commitment to nation-building.
