Eastern Naval Command Organizes 2025 METOC Conference to Enhance Naval Operations
The Eastern Naval Command Headquarters hosted the annual Meteorology and Oceanography Officers’ Conference (METOC) on November 6, 2025. This event underscored the Indian Navy's commitment to merging scientific accuracy with maritime operations.
Rear Admiral Manoj Jha, VSM, Chief Staff Officer (Operations) of the Eastern Naval Command, inaugurated the conference. During his opening address, he emphasized the critical and expanding role of Meteorology and Oceanography in contemporary naval operations. These areas significantly contribute to mission planning, navigation, anti-submarine warfare, disaster response, and humanitarian aid.
Admiral Jha stressed the importance of meteorological insights and oceanographic data in ensuring operational safety, mission success, and strategic foresight across the Indian Navy’s range of activities.
A significant highlight of the conference was the presentation of the ‘Best Indian Navy Met Office Trophy’. This new accolade aims to honor excellence in operational forecasting, service delivery, and overall efficiency among the Navy’s meteorological units.
INS Shikra received this inaugural award for the Academic Year 2024–25, recognizing its exceptional performance in accurate weather forecasting, effective support to naval operations, and innovation in data-driven predictions.
The conference allowed METOC officers from throughout the Navy to engage in professional discussions and share knowledge. Key topics included advancements in meteorological technology, data analytics, and oceanographic modeling, all crucial for enhancing situational awareness and operational effectiveness in the Indian Ocean Region.
This event reinforced the Indian Navy’s dedication to using science, technology, and data-driven analysis to boost its maritime capabilities, maintaining its role as a responsible regional maritime force.
