Eastern Command Conducts Joint Counter-IED Training for Indian Army and Assam Rifles Troops
The Indian Army’s Eastern Command has conducted a joint Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (Counter-IED) training programme for personnel of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, with the aim of sharpening their preparedness against the changing threat posed by improvised explosive devices in operational areas.
The exercise was organised by Eastern Command’s Counter Explosive Device Unit, which led the specialised training designed to improve the ability of troops to detect, disrupt and neutralise IED threats. The focus was on practical skills that are relevant in field conditions, where such devices can endanger soldiers, convoys and security operations.
As part of the initiative, the command also held a Training of Trainers (ToT) course to pass on advanced Counter-IED knowledge to selected personnel. The course covered threat awareness, search procedures, Counter-IED drills and the coordinated response methods needed to deal with explosive hazards in a structured manner.
By bringing together troops from both the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, the training was intended to build common procedures and improve coordination between the two forces. The shared format also gave participants an opportunity to work together on responses to IED-related threats, which require quick decision-making and close cooperation on the ground.
According to the Army, the programme was aimed at strengthening synergy and jointmanship while improving the forces’ ability to respond effectively to evolving IED tactics. The emphasis on joint training reflects the need for a coordinated approach in environments where explosive threats can change rapidly and demand specialised responses.
Such sessions are considered important for forces operating in areas where improvised explosive devices remain a serious risk. Eastern Command’s latest training effort underlines its focus on capability development, coordinated response and operational readiness for personnel likely to face these threats in the field.
