DGAFMS Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin Reviews Tech-Driven Training at Army Dental Centre (R&R)

Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), paid a farewell visit to the Army Dental Centre (R&R), where she met officers and troops of the Army Dental Corps over a farewell tea and reviewed the centre’s expanding technology-driven training ecosystem.

The visit brought together an appreciation of the Corps’ work with a close look at the upgraded facilities being used to sharpen professional skills and improve specialised dental care. According to the information shared during the visit, the centre has been strengthening its training infrastructure with digital tools and advanced systems aimed at supporting both clinical practice and personnel development.

One of the main features of the visit was a demonstration of a 3D printer being used for precision, patient-specific applications. The use of such technology reflects the increasing role of digital manufacturing methods in military healthcare, particularly in dental treatment where customised solutions can support more accurate and efficient care.

Surg Vice Admiral Sarin also observed a demonstration of a Virtual Dental Simulator, an advanced training aid designed for dental and para-dental personnel. The simulator is intended to provide a realistic environment for learning and practice, helping trainees build clinical skills and familiarise themselves with complex procedures before they are applied in real-world settings.

During the interaction, the DGAFMS appreciated the Army Dental Corps for adopting innovation and integrating digital workflows and modern training technologies into its functioning. She emphasised the need for continuous professional upgrading so that personnel can keep pace with developments in contemporary healthcare.

She also commended the Corps for balancing clinical care with efforts to improve the operational readiness of dental and para-dental personnel. The focus, as reflected in the visit, remains on ensuring that training and practice evolve together to support both patient care and service requirements.

The farewell visit also offered an opportunity for officers and troops to be acknowledged for their service and contribution to military healthcare. It highlighted the Armed Forces Medical Services’ continuing emphasis on technology-enabled training, innovation and patient-centric care across its institutions.

The Army Dental Corps, through the initiatives showcased at the centre, signalled its commitment to combining emerging technologies with professional training and clinical practice in order to improve healthcare outcomes and sustain the readiness of military medical personnel.
