Delhi Police Constable Recruitment: 20% Quota and PET Exemption for Ex-Agniveers
The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken a notable step by granting a 20% reservation for former Agniveers in the recruitment process for Delhi Police constables (executive), alongside making significant adjustments to eligibility conditions.
This decision involves amendments to the Delhi Police (Appointment and Recruitment) Rules, 1980, which aligns with the Central Government's wider strategy to incorporate Agniveers into security forces following their four-year service in the military.
Key Highlights of the Policy
20% reservation in constable (executive) posts for ex-Agniveers
Exemption from Physical Efficiency Test (PET), a major competitive stage involving endurance tasks like running
3-year relaxation in upper age limit (from 25 to 28 years)
Additional 5-year relaxation for the first batch of Agniveers (up to 30 years)
Although the Physical Efficiency Test is waived, candidates will still need to comply with required physical measurements and medical criteria.
Institutional Push for Agniveer Integration
This policy formalizes an earlier decision approved by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena and transitions from the previous practice of complete direct recruitment.
According to officials, the Commissioner of Delhi Police will release detailed recruitment processes, including written exams and physical measurement assessments, in due course.
Strengthening Post-Service Opportunities
This initiative is part of a broader national strategy to establish structured career paths for Agniveers after their tenure under the Agnipath scheme.
Through reservations and relaxations, the government seeks to utilize the trained and disciplined skills of ex-Agniveers in internal security roles, thereby enhancing their employment prospects.
This development underlines a growing focus on integrating military-trained individuals into civil security roles, thereby bolstering both national security and workforce effectiveness.
