Delhi Initiates Citywide Mock Drill to Evaluate Terror Attack Response

The Delhi Police have initiated a comprehensive two-day mock drill across the city to evaluate its readiness in the event of a terror attack. Commencing on Thursday and continuing through Friday, the exercise is taking place at over ten prominent locations such as Hindu College, GTB Metro Station, Palika Bazar, AIIMS, Lotus Temple, Venkateswara College, Vegas Mall, DLF Emporia, and Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Senior police authorities have indicated that the drill aims to assess response systems, foster inter-agency collaboration, and devise strategies to contain crises across various urban settings. The Delhi Police Special Cell is orchestrating the operation, which includes participation from different agencies like local police, traffic units, PCR teams, SWAT commandos, the CISF, fire services, health departments, civil defence volunteers, and Resident Welfare Associations.
The exercise is crafted to replicate authentic scenarios involving coordinated terror attacks. As part of the drill, incident command posts have been set up at each site, where response teams are conducting defensive evacuations, hostage rescue missions, suspect screenings, and checks for secondary explosive devices.
Authorities have confirmed that the coordination of the drills is being managed from the Central Police Control Room, responsible for dispatching alerts to various units and assessing response times and efficacy. The CISF is managing Metro station security simulations, while SWAT and Special Cell forces are establishing inner security perimeters at crucial locations.
This initiative is being undertaken amidst growing concerns about urban security and the necessity for a prompt reaction to emerging threats. Similar exercises were recently conducted in Jammu and Kashmir in anticipation of the Amarnath Yatra.
The Delhi Police have requested the public to stay composed and cooperative throughout the drills and to disregard any rumors or misinformation. Officials have emphasized that the goal is to bolster collective readiness and enhance the city’s ability to handle emergencies promptly and efficiently.
