Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh Arrives in Yerevan to Boost India-Armenia Defence Cooperation
Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh arrived in Yerevan on August 16, 2026, for a two-day official visit that is expected to deepen defence and strategic cooperation between India and Armenia. The trip comes at a time when both sides are looking to expand their engagement in defence technology, military capability development and wider strategic ties.
Singh was received on arrival by the Ambassador of India to Armenia and senior representatives of the Armenian Ministry of Defence. During the visit, he is scheduled to meet the Armenian leadership and discuss a future roadmap for bilateral defence cooperation, with the talks expected to focus on identifying new areas of partnership as well as strengthening existing institutional links.
The Yerevan visit follows a series of high-level exchanges between the two countries that have helped sustain momentum in the relationship. Earlier this year, Lieutenant General Edvard Asryan, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, travelled to India and held discussions with senior Indian defence officials on ways to broaden military cooperation.
During his New Delhi visit, Lieutenant General Asryan met Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh to deliberate on expanding cooperation in the defence sector. He also held separate discussions with Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh and then Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan.
Those engagements explored possible avenues for closer collaboration, including joint ventures and co-development of military hardware. The current visit by the Defence Secretary is expected to build on those conversations and provide fresh momentum to the India-Armenia defence partnership.
India’s growing engagement with Armenia has increasingly centred on practical defence cooperation and long-term strategic interests. The latest visit reflects New Delhi’s effort to develop mutually beneficial partnerships built around capability development, technology cooperation and institutional dialogue.
