Defence Ministry Approves Establishment of Independent NCC Directorates in Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand
The Ministry of Defence has announced the formation of independent National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorates for the states of Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand. This strategic decision will increase the total number of NCC State Directorates in India to 19, marking a significant step in youth development and military training programs.
This development is intended to reinforce the administrative operations of the NCC, offering cadets from these states enhanced access to nationally significant training programs and camps.
As per the Ministry of Defence, the establishment of these directorates will facilitate greater participation in central events like the Republic Day Parade Camp and the All India Thal Sainik Camp. The initiative is also poised to broaden the scope of military-oriented training and adventure activities, such as mountaineering expeditions, trekking, and parasailing.
Officials have indicated that this new administrative framework will provide more targeted coordination, better oversight, and improved support for training and development initiatives. The directorates are anticipated to bolster the training infrastructure and support systems for cadets in both states.
In Andhra Pradesh, the introduction of the NCC Directorate is expected to further integrate NCC programs with educational institutions, boosting student participation and offering expanded opportunities for leadership, discipline, and nation-building.
The Ministry has highlighted that this initiative could significantly increase youth enrolment in the NCC by enhancing training accessibility and establishing a more efficient administrative framework that caters to the specific needs of Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand.
Founded in 1948 with approximately 20,000 cadets, the NCC has evolved into the world's largest uniformed youth organization, currently boasting nearly two million cadets. NCC activities now span over 750 districts nationwide, providing young individuals with leadership, community service, and military training opportunities.
The Ministry emphasized that this expansion aligns with the government's vision to empower youth and equip them to contribute effectively to national progress.
Officials stressed that the new directorates will be instrumental in developing confident, capable, and socially responsible individuals, thereby enhancing the NCC's role in nation-building and youth empowerment in Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand.
