Defence Ministry Advances AMCA Programme with RFP Issuance and Progress in GE-414 Engine Talks

India's Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme has achieved a significant milestone with the Ministry of Defence issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the development of the nation's indigenous fifth-generation fighter aircraft, as reported by sources within the Defence Ministry.

Officials have disclosed that the RFP was released approximately ten days ago, with a 60-day period allocated for responses. Submissions are expected by the end of July, after which the government will advance to the subsequent phases of selection and development.

This flagship programme, spearheaded by the Aeronautical Development Agency in collaboration with the Indian aerospace industry, aims to enhance the Indian Air Force's capabilities. The AMCA is set to feature stealth technology, advanced sensors, network-centric warfare capabilities, and indigenous weapon systems.

GE-414 Engine Negotiations Progressing

In a related development, sources have indicated that negotiations for acquiring GE-414 engines, intended for the AMCA prototype phase, are progressing well.

Technical negotiations have reached completion, according to officials, while commercial discussions are currently ongoing. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is representing the programme in these negotiations.

The GE-414 engine has been chosen to power initial AMCA prototypes and early production models, ensuring the aircraft meets advanced operational demands.

India's Fifth-Generation Fighter Vision

Sources from the Defence Ministry have stressed the importance of expediting the AMCA programme, identifying it as a crucial step in India's quest for an indigenous fifth-generation combat aircraft capability.

The AMCA is designed to bridge the technological gap between current-generation fighters and future combat needs. Once operational, it will offer enhanced stealth, supercruise capabilities, improved survivability, and versatile combat performance suitable for future conflict scenarios.

The initiative is also seen as pivotal in bolstering India's defence manufacturing segment, aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, and involving substantial contributions from public and private aerospace firms.
