Defence Minister Highlights Operation Sindoor’s Symbolism of India's Courage and Resilience on Army Day 2026

On Thursday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh characterized Operation Sindoor as a strategic military action executed amidst global challenges. He emphasized that it stands as a testament to India's bravery, strength, restraint, and national character.

During the 78th Indian Army Day celebration in Jaipur, Singh praised the Indian Army's unwavering courage, dedication, and adaptability in modern warfare. The operation against terrorists, he noted, was carefully planned with a strong adherence to humanitarian values.

Rajnath Singh highlighted that terrorists were unprepared for the swift and courageous response of Indian soldiers. He commended the unprecedented restraint, unity, and patience demonstrated by the troops despite facing significant pressure.

Singh informed that Operation Sindoor is ongoing and expressed India's commitment to peace efforts until the eradication of terrorist ideology.

The Defence Minister emphasized the importance of self-reliance in defence, noting the extensive use of indigenous weapons during the operation. He reported an increase in domestic defence production from ₹46,000 crore in 2014 to ₹1.51 lakh crore and a rise in defence exports from under ₹1,000 crore to approximately ₹24,000 crore.

He stated that under Narendra Modi's leadership, the government is providing the Armed Forces with advanced indigenous platforms tailored to national operational needs, stressing the importance of strengthening inter-service connections as warfare evolves across various domains.

Commending ongoing reforms, Singh stated that the Indian Army is following a strategic roadmap aimed at transformation, consolidation, and excellence, with the goal of becoming the most powerful army globally by 2047.

He described the Army as a unifying force comprising individuals from diverse backgrounds united by a national purpose. Singh asserted that the Army is not merely a military force but a pillar of national unity and social cohesion, with public trust in the Armed Forces being India's greatest strategic asset.

The Defence Minister reiterated the government's dedication to veterans' welfare and highlighted the expanding roles for women in the Armed Forces, including Permanent Commission and entry into the National Defence Academy. He encouraged youth to join the Armed Forces, underscoring the importance of leadership, moral courage, and decision-making skills alongside physical strength.

As part of the Army Day celebrations, Singh engaged with troops at Jaipur Military Station and attended Shaurya Sandhya, an event showcasing the Army's valor, traditions, and readiness. The event featured martial arts, traditional sports, a Nepalese Army band, and a reenactment of Operation Sindoor, culminating in a drone display.

Fifty NAMAN centers were virtually inaugurated to provide integrated support to veterans, pensioners, Veer Naris, and their families through SPARSH-enabled pension and citizen services.

The event was witnessed by senior civil and military officials, including Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan and Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, along with state dignitaries, veterans, and citizens, highlighting the strong bond between the Armed Forces and the nation.
