CTW Officer Cadets Visit Jaipur Military Station, Meet Lt Gen PS Shekhawat

Officer cadets from the Cadets Training Wing (CTW) visited Jaipur Military Station during their Mid-Term Hike, getting a closer look at the Indian Army’s current operational capabilities, new technologies and modern equipment. The visit was designed to bridge classroom learning with field exposure, giving the cadets an opportunity to observe how contemporary military formations function in practice.

During the interaction, the cadets were introduced to next-generation equipment and weapon systems and were briefed on the roles and capabilities of Infantry units and Special Forces. The exposure was meant to help them understand not only the equipment in service, but also the operational environment in which such systems are employed. For cadets training to become future officers, the visit offered practical context to complement their academic instruction and prepare them for the demands of modern military operations.

Beyond the military component, the cadets also experienced Jaipur’s cultural and historical heritage as part of the hike, adding a wider educational dimension to the programme. The mix of operational exposure and heritage learning reflected the broader aim of the Mid-Term Hike, which is to provide cadets with experiences that go beyond routine classroom training.

Lieutenant General PS Shekhawat, Chief of Staff, South Western Command, interacted with the Officer Cadets during the visit. He spoke to them about leadership and professional development, and urged them to cultivate a strong reading habit, remain focused on the welfare of the personnel they will one day command and keep expanding their professional knowledge.

Lt Gen Shekhawat also stressed that military leadership is not defined only by technical competence or operational knowledge. He reminded the cadets that becoming effective officers requires them to be good human beings first — leaders who show character, empathy and a sense of responsibility towards their troops. His message placed equal importance on professional excellence and personal qualities in shaping future commanders.

The visit to Jaipur Military Station was part of the Army’s broader effort to give Officer Cadets practical exposure and learning opportunities outside the classroom as they prepare for future leadership roles. Such interactions are intended to strengthen their understanding of the service, its evolving capabilities and the responsibilities that come with command.
