CRPF Jawan Attacked by Kanwariyas at Mirzapur Railway Station, Public Safety Concerns Raised

A video showing a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan being brutally attacked by a group of Kanwariyas at Mirzapur Railway Station has ignited public outrage after circulating widely on social media. The jawan, named Gautam, was in uniform and preparing to board the Brahmaputra Express to Manipur when a mob of pilgrims assaulted him, while bystanders and security staff failed to step in.

Official accounts detail that the incident originated from a verbal disagreement between Gautam and several Kanwariyas on the platform. This confrontation swiftly turned violent, leading to the CRPF officer being chased, knocked to the ground, and subjected to repeated punching and kicking. Video evidence shows that despite his uniform, Gautam received no help from those nearby.

In the aftermath, a formal complaint was lodged at the RPF post in Mirzapur. Authorities registered three separate FIRs—numbered 411/25, 412/25, and 413/25—under Sections 145 and 147 of the Indian Railways Act. Some individuals involved in the attack have been detained, and efforts are ongoing to capture others.

Reports suggest that Gautam boarded his train to leave for his destination shortly after the incident. Authorities took subsequent action, filing the case and launching an investigation. While the reason behind the initial conflict remains unknown, the attack on a uniformed officer has raised significant concerns regarding public safety and the behavior of certain Kanwariya factions.

This incident occurs in the context of a series of disputes linked to the Kanwar Yatra this year, with isolated groups of pilgrims reportedly engaging in conflicts with locals and disturbing public peace. The assault on the CRPF jawan in broad daylight is perceived as a serious breach in public discipline and a failure in managing crowds at railway stations during the pilgrimage period.
