Commodore Mahesh Moudgil Takes Office as Chief Staff Officer (Operations) at Southern Naval Command Headquarters
Commodore Mahesh Moudgil has taken over as Chief Staff Officer (Operations) at the Headquarters of the Southern Naval Command (HQ SNC) as of January 7, 2026. He succeeded Commodore Sarvpreet Singh in a formal handover ceremony.
With expertise in Gunnery and Missile Warfare, Cmde Moudgil is a distinguished alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy and a graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico. His extensive operational experience includes commanding the frontline warship INS Kochi and serving as the Commissioning Commanding Officer of INS Kadmatt.

Throughout his naval career, Cmde Moudgil has occupied significant staff roles in both the Western Fleet and the Eastern Fleet, contributing to strategic operational planning in various maritime contexts. His professional achievements have been acknowledged with honors such as the Sword of Honour and the Admiral Ram Das Katari Trophy.
In his new role as Chief Staff Officer (Operations), Cmde Moudgil is anticipated to be instrumental in managing operational readiness, training, and maritime security efforts under the Southern Naval Command. This role is crucial for enhancing the Navy’s preparedness, cooperation, and mission effectiveness within the Indian Ocean Region.
