Command Hospital Lucknow Enhances Military Healthcare with New Digital Radiography System
In a notable advancement for military healthcare services in northern India, Command Hospital in Lucknow has launched a cutting-edge 1000 mA Digital Radiography and Fluoroscopy System. The sophisticated diagnostic unit was officially inaugurated by Lieutenant General Navin Sachdeva, who serves as the Chief of Staff for the Indian Army's Central Command, during his visit to the hospital's Department of Radiodiagnosis & Imaging.
This newly installed system is anticipated to significantly improve diagnostic accuracy and safety by decreasing radiation exposure by up to 40 percent, as verified by a study in the Journal of Radiology. It is set to benefit over 600,000 active and retired military personnel and their families who depend on the hospital for healthcare services.
Lt Gen Sachdeva commended the medical staff, known as the Surya Healers, for their dedication to providing quality medical care. The Command Hospital, which currently operates with 42 beds, aims to become a fully operational multi-specialty facility by the end of 2025. Managed by the Lucknow Cantonment Board, the hospital is a vital part of the military medical framework in the region.
This initiative also showcases a broader effort by the Central Command to modernize healthcare facilities while ensuring operational efficiency. The Command is responsible for military operations across eight states and is crucial in maintaining security along the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Tibet borders. Historically serving as a strategic reserve during the 1962 Sino-Indian War, the command now equally emphasizes welfare programs alongside defense activities.
Since taking on the role of Chief of Staff on April 10, 2025, Lt Gen Sachdeva, who previously led the Nagrota-based White Knight Corps (16 Corps) in Jammu and Kashmir, has focused on enhancing both operational capabilities and administrative reforms, particularly in troop welfare.
The deployment of this advanced diagnostic system underscores the Indian Army's dedication to enhancing veteran support services and upgrading healthcare technologies throughout its medical facilities.
