Command Hospital (Eastern Command) Holds CPR Awareness Event, Training 150 Participants on National CPR Day
In celebration of National CPR Day, the Department of Pediatrics at Command Hospital (Eastern Command) partnered with the West Bengal Academy of Pediatrics (IAP–ALS BLS Chapter) to conduct a comprehensive awareness campaign focused on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). This initiative aimed to bolster community readiness and enhance the emergency response skills that can save lives.
Over 150 participants engaged in the programme, which offered practical training through interactive workshops and hands-on demonstrations. The sessions were designed to provide attendees with the necessary knowledge and confidence to act effectively in medical emergencies, where immediate action can be crucial.
The training sessions included a range of Basic Life Support (BLS) techniques such as Adult CPR, Pediatric CPR, Infant Basic Life Support, and Neonatal Resuscitation. Experienced instructors and medical experts led participants through internationally recognized resuscitation protocols, ensuring a thorough grasp of both the theoretical and practical aspects of emergency response.

Key elements of the workshops included the early recognition of cardiac and respiratory emergencies, timely initiation of CPR, effective airway management, and the execution of chest compressions until professional medical assistance arrives. Participants practiced these skills on training manikins, gaining vital experience in a controlled environment.

Medical professionals emphasized that proper, immediate CPR can greatly enhance survival chances in sudden cardiac arrest and other critical situations. They underscored the importance of broadening public awareness and increasing community participation in CPR training, as it empowers individuals to take decisive action before emergency medical personnel arrive.
The collaboration between Command Hospital (Eastern Command) and the West Bengal Academy of Pediatrics (IAP–ALS BLS Chapter) showcases a unified dedication to advancing public health education and emergency preparedness. Such initiatives not only improve individual skills but also foster a safer community equipped to handle emergencies effectively.
The CPR awareness drive concluded with participants expressing gratitude for the hands-on nature of the programme and the life-saving skills they acquired. The event highlighted the critical role of timely intervention, ongoing public education, and community readiness in saving lives through efficient emergency response.
