CME Pune Hosts CBRN Orientation for AFMC Medical Officers to Enhance Emergency Preparedness
The College of Military Engineering (CME) in Pune recently held a specialised training programme on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) scenarios. This orientation was attended by 47 officers from the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), who are currently enrolled in the Medical Officers Junior Command Course and Advanced Military Dentistry Course. The training took place on June 19, 2026.
The programme aimed to improve the readiness of military medical personnel to handle emergencies stemming from unconventional warfare and CBRN incidents.
Throughout the orientation, participants were thoroughly trained on life-saving procedures and operational protocols pertinent to CBRN environments. The focus was on essential processes such as CBRN decontamination, mass casualty triaging, evacuation of casualties, and managing injuries from chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats.

The training also stressed the importance of coordinated medical response strategies in large-scale emergencies, providing officers with practical skills for operating efficiently in complex and high-risk situations.
According to officials, this training is a crucial part of military medical preparedness, allowing healthcare professionals to respond quickly and effectively to modern warfare threats. The sessions were tailored to enhance operational readiness and the ability of medical officers to deliver swift and effective care in challenging conditions.
This initiative underscores the Indian Armed Forces' commitment to inter-service collaboration and professional development, combining expertise from military engineering and medical sectors to tackle evolving security and healthcare challenges.
By educating officers on specialised CBRN response procedures, the programme supports the development of a more robust and resilient military healthcare system capable of meeting operational needs in diverse conflict scenarios.
Upon completing the training, participants acquired valuable knowledge on contemporary CBRN defence strategies, casualty management, and emergency response protocols, further boosting their professional skills and readiness for demanding operational contexts.
