CISF Jawan Sunil Jasrotia Allegedly Shoots Himself at Jammu Airport, Critical

A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan was left critically injured at Jammu Airport on Tuesday after an incident involving his service rifle outside the terminal’s exit gate, prompting a police probe and an internal response from senior CISF officers.

The personnel, identified as Sunil Jasrotia, was on security duty at the airport when the incident took place, officials said. Initial reports said he shot himself in the head with his service weapon, while a local report later described the rifle as having gone off accidentally. Either way, the episode caused panic among people present at the airport.

According to officials, the gunshot was heard near the exit gate area, where Jasrotia was deployed. Colleagues rushed to the spot and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was quickly shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu, where doctors said his condition was critical.

The exact sequence of events was not immediately clear. Authorities did not, at the time of the incident, explain what led to the discharge of the weapon or whether the injury was self-inflicted or accidental. Police have taken cognisance of the matter and begun an investigation to establish the circumstances.

The local report identified Jasrotia as 36 years old and said he was the son of Rachpal Jasrotia and a resident of Hiranagar in Kathua district. It also placed the incident at around 4 p.m. near the airport’s exit gate, adding that the discharge caused severe injuries to his head and face.

Senior CISF officers arrived at the scene after the incident. Airport operations were not reported to have been disrupted for a prolonged period, although the gunshot created momentary alarm among passengers and others at the airport.

By Wednesday morning, no official statement had clarified the motive or resolved the differing initial accounts. Further details are expected once the inquiry moves forward.
