CIJW School Vairengte Conducts Four-Week Counter-Insurgency Cadre for Arunachal Pradesh Police STF
The Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJW School) at Vairengte has completed a four-week cadre on counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism for personnel of the Arunachal Pradesh Police Special Task Force, with the training programme culminating on 3 September 2026.
The course was aimed at improving the operational preparedness of the participating personnel and strengthening their ability to operate effectively in difficult security environments. Designed as a practical training package, the cadre brought together individual skill development, tactical drills and team-based functioning, all of which are considered essential for counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism duties.
A key focus of the programme was fieldcraft and battlecraft, areas that remain central to the conduct of operations in challenging terrain and uncertain conditions. The training was intended to sharpen the participants’ understanding of these fundamentals and reinforce their application in the field.

Alongside this, the cadre included tactical drills meant to improve coordination, responsiveness and effectiveness at the team level. Such exercises are important in helping personnel become more familiar with tactical procedures while also reinforcing disciplined execution during operational tasks.
Advanced firing practices formed another major part of the four-week schedule. Regular and progressive weapons training is necessary to maintain individual proficiency and to ensure that personnel can use their weapons responsibly and effectively in operational settings.
The participants also received practical exposure to intelligence-led operations. This aspect of the training highlighted the role of relevant information in planning and carrying out counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism missions, where timely and effective use of intelligence can shape operational outcomes.
By combining fieldcraft, battlecraft, tactical drills, firing practices and intelligence-led operational training, the cadre was structured to build a broad operational skill set among the personnel. Its practical orientation was meant to help them translate classroom and range instruction into effective action in demanding field situations.
The training also placed clear emphasis on the balance between individual performance and collective effectiveness. In counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations, the competence of each personnel must be matched by coordination and cohesion within the team. The cadre therefore offered exposure to both individual proficiency and coordinated tactical functioning.

The successful completion of the programme also highlights the role of CIJW School, Vairengte, as a specialised training institution for security personnel preparing for contemporary operational demands. The school provides a focused environment where personnel can train in skills relevant to operations in difficult and complex terrain.
The participation of the Arunachal Pradesh Police Special Task Force added a cooperative dimension to the cadre, strengthening ties between the Army and the state police. Joint and specialised training engagements allow personnel from different security organisations to build professional familiarity and a shared understanding of operational requirements.
That coordination is especially relevant in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism settings, where effective responses depend on cooperation, information sharing, complementary capabilities and common procedures on the ground.

The cadre therefore served both a training and a capacity-building purpose. While improving the operational capabilities of the Arunachal Pradesh Police personnel, it also contributed to stronger institutional cooperation between the CIJW School and the state police force.
Its culmination on 3 September marked the end of an intensive four-week programme focused on preparing personnel for the realities of modern security operations. The skills developed during the course are intended to build confidence, tactical competence and team effectiveness in demanding environments.
The programme also reflects the continuing importance of specialised training in sustaining security force readiness. As counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism challenges evolve, personnel require repeated exposure to practical training, tactical drills and intelligence-led approaches to remain effective in the field.
With the cadre now concluded at CIJW School, Vairengte, the Arunachal Pradesh Police Special Task Force has gained another layer of operational preparation, while the engagement has further strengthened cooperation between the Army and state police in addressing contemporary security challenges.
