Chhattisgarh Cabinet Approves Rules to Enforce 10% Quota for Ex-Agniveers in State Jobs

Raipur, October 1, 2026: The Chhattisgarh Cabinet has approved the recruitment rules needed to implement the state’s 10 per cent reservation for former Agniveers in selected Class III posts, clearing the way for direct recruitment to begin under the quota in the police, forest and prison departments.

The decision was taken on September 30, 2026, at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at Mahanadi Bhawan in Raipur. The government cleared the Chhattisgarh Public Service Former Agniveer Soldiers Recruitment Rules, 2026, which lay down the appointment and service conditions, recruitment criteria, reservation provisions and selection process for the posts covered under the policy.

Officials said the approval does not create a fresh reservation. Instead, it provides the recruitment framework required to put into effect a policy decision already taken by the state government. With the rules now in place, the concerned departments can proceed with selections in which the 10 per cent quota will be applied to the identified posts.

Under the rules, former Agniveers will be eligible for reservation in direct recruitment to the posts of constable in the Police Department, forest guard in the Forest and Climate Change Department, and jail prahari, or jail warder, in the Prisons Department.

The reservation itself had been approved earlier, on July 22, 2026, when the Cabinet cleared the Chhattisgarh Reservation of Vacancies in Class-III Civil Services for Agniveer Soldiers Rules, 2026. That move followed an announcement made by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in the State Legislative Assembly on July 26, 2024, and was aimed at supporting the rehabilitation and employment of personnel completing four years of service under the Centre’s Agnipath scheme.

The earlier rules specify that the benefit will be available only to Agniveers from Chhattisgarh who have completed four years of service in the armed forces and have been discharged with a valid service certificate. The state government has said the arrangement is intended to create structured employment opportunities for these personnel while also enabling the police, forest and prison departments to draw on their training, discipline and service experience.

By approving the recruitment rules on September 30, the Cabinet has completed the administrative step between the policy announcement and implementation on the ground. The quota can now be operationalised during recruitment for the relevant Class III posts.

The same Cabinet meeting also gave post-facto approval to the Revised Guest Lecturer Policy, 2026, for government colleges and ratified an order related to the tax-free status of the film Hanuman Ansh. Those decisions are separate from the Agniveer recruitment framework.
