CDS Highlights Importance of Joint Operations and Self-Reliance at RAN SAMWAD
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan highlighted the importance of quick and effective joint responses across different domains to ensure success in future conflicts. He emphasized that future battlefields will transcend traditional service boundaries.
Speaking at RAN SAMWAD, an inaugural Tri-Service seminar focusing on war and warfare strategies, held at the Army War College, General Chauhan stressed that self-reliance in defense and integrated logistics will be crucial for India's warfighting capabilities in the future.
He advocated for the institutionalization of joint training and the adoption of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Cyber, and Quantum to enhance operational capabilities. General Chauhan also emphasized civil-military collaboration and reiterated India's dedication to developing its own version of an Iron Dome, known as Sudarshan Chakra, which will function as both a defensive and offensive tool.
Referencing ancient Indian philosopher Kautilya, General Chauhan called attention to India's rich heritage of knowledge and ideas. He noted the scarcity of rigorous academic discourse on Indian warfare and strategy, urging for in-depth research on leadership, morale, technology, and various war dimensions. He stated, "India must be Sashakt, Surakshit, Aatmanirbhar, and Viksit, achievable only through collective efforts to build future-ready forces."
General Chauhan noted that RAN SAMWAD is designed to elevate the perspectives of serving professionals, especially younger and mid-level officers familiar with technological trends. He stressed the importance of fostering an environment where new ideas can integrate with experienced insights.
The seminar, with its theme ‘Impact of Technology on Warfare’, is set to conclude tomorrow. It will feature a plenary address by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and the event will also see the launch of a series of Joint Doctrines and the Technology Perspective & Capability Roadmap.
