CBI Detains BSF Accounts Officer for Allegedly Accepting Bribe to Process Contractor Payments

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has detained Dharmender Kumar Verma, an Assistant Accounts Officer at the Border Security Force's Public Accounts Office, for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe from a contractor to process overdue bills.
Officials reported that Verma demanded ₹2 lakh from the contractor, which represented roughly 15–20% of the total bill amount, as a corrupt payment for facilitating the clearance of the pending payments. After negotiations, Verma and some unidentified associates consented to receive the bribe.
The CBI set up a sting operation and caught Verma in the act on July 18, as he accepted a ₹40,000 installment as part of the bribe. “The accused was apprehended while receiving ₹40,000 from the complainant. The investigation continues to identify the involvement of other individuals,” stated a CBI spokesperson.
This arrest is part of a series of recent measures taken by central agencies to address corruption within government departments and security forces. The CBI is actively investigating to uncover any broader connections and to ascertain if other officials were involved in the bribery scheme.
