BSF Jawan Nagendra Kumar Found Dead in Tripura Border Post Gunshot, Probe Underway

Agartala, October 1: A Border Security Force jawan was found dead early on Thursday after sustaining a gunshot injury from his service rifle while on duty at a border post in West Tripura, prompting an inquiry by police and BSF authorities into the circumstances surrounding the death.

The incident was reported around 5:45 am near Gate No. 52 of the Tebaria Border Outpost (BOP) under the 42nd Battalion of the BSF. The deceased has been identified as Nagendra Kumar, a resident of Dosod in Rajasthan, who was posted with the 42nd Battalion and was on duty at the post when the incident took place.

According to preliminary accounts carried in regional reports, Kumar suffered a fatal gunshot wound after a round was fired from his service weapon. Some reports, citing initial information, suggested that the injury may have been self-inflicted. Other accounts have stated only that a bullet was fired from his service rifle and that he later died from the injury. The sequence of events leading up to the firing has not yet been established.

Police and BSF personnel reached the scene after being alerted and began an investigation. Officials are examining the events before the shooting as well as other related aspects of the death. The body has been taken for the necessary legal procedures.

The case has also raised a question of jurisdiction. Reports indicate that the location is linked to Airport Police Station, while the place of occurrence is also said to fall under Lefunga Police Station. Coordination between the two police stations is expected as the inquiry continues.

No official BSF statement on the cause of death had been reported at the time of filing. Details such as Kumar’s age, rank beyond the description of jawan, and any personal or service-related factors have not been confirmed in the available accounts. Further information from the administration and investigating agencies is awaited.
