BSF Foils Alleged Infiltration Bid in Punjab’s Tarn Taran, Two Suspected Pakistani Intruders Killed
The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled an alleged infiltration attempt along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab on Friday, October 2, after two suspected Pakistani intruders were shot dead in Tarn Taran district.
According to officials cited in the report, the incident took place early in the day near BOP Rajoke, where BSF personnel noticed suspicious movement from the Pakistani side and moved to stop the individuals as they approached the border.
At least three people were reportedly seen heading towards the Indian side from the Chattanwala area across the border. BSF personnel challenged them and issued warnings not to cross further into Indian territory.
The individuals allegedly ignored the warnings and continued advancing. The BSF then opened fire, killing two of the suspected infiltrators. A third person reportedly managed to retreat back towards the Pakistani side.
The identities of the two men killed in the incident have not yet been established. Their bodies were handed over to the police for post-mortem examination after the firing.
Further details about who they were and the circumstances surrounding the attempted crossing are still awaited. Police and security agencies are expected to investigate the case further to determine their identities and the intent behind the movement towards the Indian side.
The incident comes against the backdrop of persistent security concerns along Punjab’s 553-kilometre-long international border with Pakistan. The frontier has repeatedly seen attempts involving infiltration and cross-border smuggling, making sustained surveillance a key part of BSF operations in the sector.
The latest incident near BOP Rajoke adds to those continuing challenges. The BSF has previously stopped several attempts involving unauthorised movement and cross-border activity in the same general border belt.
Security officials say the episode once again reflects the level of alertness required from border personnel in Punjab, where any movement towards the international boundary can quickly turn into a security incident.
The BSF continues to maintain close watch along the Punjab border to prevent unauthorised crossings and safeguard India’s international boundary.
