Baloch Liberation Army Claims Responsibility for Fatal IED Attack on Pakistan Army Bus in Balochistan
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has announced its involvement in a severe attack on a Pakistan Army bus that was passing through the regions of Quetta and Kalak in Balochistan. According to the group's statement, the attack resulted in the deaths of 29 soldiers and was carried out using a remote-controlled Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
Preliminary reports indicate that 27 soldiers were killed instantly when the explosive device detonated, specifically targeting the military vehicle in motion. Two more soldiers later died from their injuries at a nearby military hospital. The explosion took place in a region known for insurgent activities, prompting security officials to secure the area for further investigation.
Following the attack, the BLA issued a statement reiterating its previous warnings to civilians to avoid proximity to Pakistan's military forces in Balochistan, citing risks of collateral damage. "We had previously cautioned people to stay away from personnel of Pakistan's army while they are in Balochistan," the group stated.
There are unconfirmed reports that several local artists were present on the bus at the time of the explosion, raising concerns about potential civilian casualties. However, the identities and number of non-military passengers affected have not been officially verified.
Images from the attack site reveal the burnt-out remains of the bus and debris scattered around, demonstrating the explosion's intensity. Emergency services arrived promptly, and rescue operations continued into the evening.
The incident underscores the ongoing instability in Balochistan, where separatist factions such as the BLA have engaged in a prolonged insurgency against the Pakistani government, seeking autonomy and control over the region's resources. Recent months have seen an increase in militant actions, focusing on military and infrastructure targets.
While Pakistan's military has yet to release an official statement regarding the casualties, sources confirm that there is a heightened state of alert and a search is underway to apprehend the attackers.
