Army Soldier Dies in Rajasthan Training Exercise as Tank Sinks in Indira Gandhi Canal

A tragic incident claimed the life of a young Army soldier in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar district during a routine training exercise when an armoured tank sank in the Indira Gandhi Canal, officials reported on Wednesday.

The accident took place on Tuesday morning as armoured vehicles were engaged in a canal-crossing drill. Police stated that the tank became immobilized in the canal and began to sink quickly.

According to a police officer, two soldiers were inside the tank at the time. While one soldier managed to escape, the other was unable to get out. Rescue operations by police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Civil Defence teams lasted several hours before the soldier's body was recovered.

Officials confirmed that a post-mortem examination is scheduled for Wednesday.

The Army has yet to release the identity of the deceased soldier. An investigation into the factors that led to the accident is anticipated.
