Army Soldier and Civilian Killed in SUV Crash in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu
An Indian Army soldier and another individual lost their lives when a speeding SUV collided with a tree and overturned in Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan, late Tuesday night. The tragic crash also left two others critically injured, necessitating a rescue effort by local police and emergency services.
Police reports indicate that the accident took place in the Bagad Police Station area when the SUV apparently went out of control, struck a tree, and flipped over. The force of the collision caused significant damage, trapping all four passengers inside the vehicle.
Authorities identified the deceased as Havildar Rakesh Kumar, 36, an Indian Army soldier from Kolsiya village in Nawalgarh, and Nitin, 22, from the Old Housing Board Colony. Both victims were found in the front seats of the heavily damaged SUV.
The injured individuals have been named as Ajay Kumar, 25, from Jhunjhunu, and Sakshak Sihag, originally from Singhana but currently residing in Jaipur. They suffered severe injuries and were initially treated at BDK Hospital before being transferred to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur for further medical care.
Family members revealed that the group of four friends was traveling late at night to drop Nitin off near Chirawa when the accident transpired. The precise cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Station House Officer Mukesh Kumar stated that a police team promptly arrived at the scene upon receiving information about the accident. Given that the passengers were trapped in the wreckage, rescue workers employed heavy machinery, including a JCB excavator and a crane, to free the victims.
Once the rescue operation concluded, the deceased were taken to the government hospital mortuary. After completing the required legal procedures and post-mortem examinations, the bodies were released to their respective families.
Family members have alleged that the SUV's airbags did not deploy during the crash, suggesting that this failure might have contributed to the fatalities. This claim is likely to be included in the ongoing investigation.
Police have launched an inquiry to ascertain the factors leading to the accident, looking into elements such as the speed of the vehicle, road conditions, and the SUV's mechanical state.
