Army Chief Highlights Primacy of Land Forces in Strategic Warfare

On Tuesday, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi emphasized the crucial role of land forces in achieving victory in warfare, particularly within India's strategic landscape. He asserted that territorial control is a key factor in determining the outcome of conflicts.
During his address at the 52nd National Management Convention held at Taj Palace in New Delhi, General Dwivedi stated, “In India, since we have two-and-half-front threats, land will remain the currency of victory.”
The Army Chief cited the recent Alaska summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning the Ukraine conflict. He highlighted that the talks centered around territorial exchanges, illustrating the significance of land control in contemporary military engagements.
General Dwivedi's comments were made shortly after Air Chief Marshal AP Singh had underscored the importance of air power following Operation Sindoor. The Army Chief's remarks indicated a focus on maintaining a balanced approach among military services, with an emphasis on the critical role of land dominance.
He further addressed the shifting dynamics of warfare, highlighting the Indian Army's commitment to incorporating new technologies as part of its transformative reforms.
General Dwivedi reiterated the necessity of theaterisation to enhance joint operations across varied security and civil agencies. He stressed the importance of unified command for effective coordination, citing the involvement of the Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, and defense cyber and space agencies. “Unity of command is more important. You need one commander to achieve coordination in execution. Theaterisation is absolutely necessary,” he stated.
