Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja Reviews Healthcare Modernisation at Base Hospital Delhi Cantt

Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), visited Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt, on 9 October 2026 to assess the facility’s clinical services, patient care outcomes, administrative performance, operational challenges and future development plans.

The review placed particular emphasis on how effectively the hospital is delivering healthcare to personnel and how its internal systems are supporting that role. Alongside clinical services, Air Marshal Thareja examined administrative efficiency and the operational issues facing the hospital, with the aim of understanding both immediate requirements and longer-term priorities.

Patient care outcomes formed a central part of the assessment. The DGAFMS reviewed the effectiveness of the hospital’s clinical services and looked at whether institutional processes and administrative support were adequate for the medical responsibilities the hospital is expected to discharge. The visit reflected a broader focus on ensuring that high-quality healthcare remains aligned with efficient internal functioning.

As part of the inspection, Air Marshal Thareja also visited the Capt Devashish Sharma, KC, OPD Complex and the new Key Location Plan (KLP) infrastructure. These facilities are part of the hospital’s modernisation and capacity enhancement efforts, and their review formed an important component of the day’s visit.

The visit to the OPD Complex and the new KLP infrastructure offered an opportunity to examine the hospital’s ongoing development work. Modernisation and infrastructure expansion remain important to strengthening institutional capacity and supporting the delivery of healthcare services to service personnel.

By reviewing clinical services, administration and infrastructure together, the DGAFMS took stock of both the hospital’s current operational needs and its future plans. The exercise was aimed at identifying challenges, strengthening healthcare delivery and ensuring that the facility remains equipped to meet its responsibilities.

The Armed Forces Medical Services said the visit reflected its commitment to delivering quality healthcare, strengthening medical infrastructure and developing future-ready military healthcare institutions. Attention to patient care, operational efficiency and modernisation remains central to efforts to improve the capability of military hospitals.

Through the inspection, Air Marshal Thareja reviewed the functioning and development priorities of Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt, while also taking stock of the initiatives underway to modernise its facilities and enhance capacity. The focus remained on quality healthcare delivery, efficient administration and infrastructure development in support of the AFMS’s wider healthcare responsibilities.
