Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja, SM, VSM & Bar, the Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), visited Army Hospital (Research & Referral) for the first time after taking charge, reviewing the hospital’s clinical infrastructure, patient care systems and specialist treatment facilities for the Armed Forces community.

The visit gave the DGAFMS an opportunity to assess one of the Armed Forces’ key medical institutions, which functions as a major tertiary-care referral hospital in New Delhi. Army Hospital (R&R) provides specialised medical and surgical treatment across multiple disciplines and caters to Armed Forces personnel as well as their dependants.

During the inspection, Air Marshal Thareja was briefed on the hospital’s healthcare capabilities and the range of facilities available for specialised treatment. The briefing covered the institution’s role in delivering advanced care to service members and their families, reflecting the scale of responsibilities borne by the hospital within the military medical system.

He also met officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and Other Ranks serving at the hospital. Air Marshal Thareja acknowledged their commitment and professional dedication in maintaining high standards of healthcare for the Armed Forces community.

In his interaction with the hospital staff, the DGAFMS stressed the need to keep pushing for excellence in patient care, medical research and professional training. He urged all ranks to stay focused on improving healthcare delivery and on achieving better health outcomes for serving personnel, veterans and their dependants.

Army Hospital (R&R), located in New Delhi, remains a central referral centre for the Armed Forces medical network, with specialised care available across a wide range of medical and surgical disciplines. The hospital’s advanced facilities and clinical expertise make it an important institution for the treatment of complex cases referred from within the services.
