Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor Evaluates Operations at Air Force Station Lonavla, Highlights Technological Advancements and Vigilance

Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Air Force’s South Western Air Command (SWAC), conducted a visit to Air Force Station Lonavla today. During his visit, he assessed current operational activities and engaged with the station's personnel. The trip also highlighted the station's crucial role in the successful implementation of Operation Sindoor, a recent precision strike aimed at dismantling cross-border terrorist infrastructure.

With more than 35 years of service, including a diplomatic role as Defence Attaché to Pakistan, Air Marshal Kapoor emphasized the significance of technological advancements in India's air defense capabilities. He pointed out the necessity of reinforcing the Indian Air Force's communication systems by incorporating next-generation technologies, especially through initiatives such as the ₹1,077 crore Air Force Network (AFNet) project.

Initiated in 2010 with assistance from HCL Technologies and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, AFNet has replaced the old tropo-scatter system, laying the groundwork for net-centric operations. Kapoor reiterated the Indian Air Force's dedication to utilizing this infrastructure to enhance coordination among the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

During his visit, the Air Marshal also inspected infrastructure upgrades at the station, emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity, interoperability, and mission readiness. He praised the air warriors for their professionalism and operational efficiency during recent missions, including strategic deployments across SWAC’s areas of responsibility in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and parts of Maharashtra.

The visit concluded with interactions that enhanced the morale of the personnel, highlighting the proactive stance of the IAF leadership in modernizing India's aerial defense capabilities. Kapoor’s hands-on involvement in frontline operations, such as piloting a Su-30 MKI sortie, demonstrates a leadership approach based on direct engagement and operational expertise.
