Adani Defence Completes Early Delivery of 2,000 'Prahar' Light Machine Guns to Indian Army

Adani Defence and Aerospace has successfully delivered the first shipment of 2,000 'Prahar' light machine guns (LMGs) to the Indian Army. This delivery represents a substantial enhancement to the Army's infantry capabilities as part of the 'Make in India' initiative.

The LMGs, which are of 7.62 mm calibre, were produced at Adani's Small Arms Complex near Gwalior. A formal ceremony was held to commemorate the handover, with high-ranking officials such as A Anbarasu, Director General (Acquisition) from the Ministry of Defence, and Ashish Rajvanshi in attendance.

In a subsequent event, A Anbarasu signaled the dispatch of the first batch of these weapons to Army units by flagging off the trucks for delivery.

During the event, Ashish Rajvanshi noted that this achievement came 11 months ahead of the projected schedule. He further mentioned that the complete order, which consists of approximately 40,000 LMGs, is anticipated to be fulfilled within the forthcoming three years, significantly ahead of the initial timeline.

A Anbarasu commended the company for its prompt delivery, stating it demonstrates the defence sector's increased proficiency in swiftly converting contracts into practical equipment. He reiterated the government's dedication to supporting local defence manufacturers.

The integration of the 'Prahar' LMGs aligns with India's strategy to achieve self-sufficiency in defence manufacturing and to modernize its infantry weaponry, thereby boosting the Army's operational efficiency on the battlefield.

This development highlights the growing influence of private sector companies in bolstering India's domestic defence production capabilities.
