1 MADRAS Battalion of the Indian Army Commemorates 250 Years of Distinguished Service

The 1 Mechanised Infantry (1 MADRAS) Battalion of the Madras Regiment recently celebrated a significant milestone, marking 250 years of commendable service. This sestercentennial anniversary was observed with a sense of pride, honoring tradition and reaffirming a commitment to duty.

The event saw the presence of Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, the Army Commander of Sapta Shakti Command and Colonel of the Madras Regiment, along with Lieutenant General PS Shekhawat, Chief of Staff at Sapta Shakti Command and Colonel of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment.

In his address during the ceremony, Lt Gen Manjinder Singh paid homage to the battalion's spirit, valor, and the ultimate sacrifices made by its members. Over the span of two and a half centuries, their exemplary service has forged a proud legacy. He highlighted that the ethos of "Fighting First" continues to define the character and operational prowess of the battalion.

The Army Commander further praised the soldiers for their professional skills and achievements in operations. He urged the current generation to maintain the regiment's cherished traditions, values, and fighting spirit, which are integral to the Indian Army.

Part of the celebrations included the release of a Special Day Cover, commemorating this historic milestone and symbolizing the battalion’s lasting legacy and steadfast service to the nation.

The sestercentennial festivities reinforced the 1 Mechanised Infantry’s status as one of the Indian Army's most illustrious units, characterized by courage, determination, and selfless service through the ages.
