Vice Admiral Suraj Berry Retires After 38 Years of Exemplary Service in the Indian Navy

Vice Admiral Suraj Berry, PVSM, AVSM, NM, VSM, the Commander-in-Chief, has retired after a distinguished tenure of over 38 years with the Indian Navy. To commemorate this significant milestone, he paid homage to the nation's valiant heroes by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
Vice Admiral Berry began his service upon his commissioning on January 1, 1987. A specialist in Gunnery and Missile Warfare, he is also an alumnus of the Naval War College in Rhode Island, USA. With extensive sea experience exceeding 19 years, he commanded several significant warships, including INS Nirbhik, INS Karmuk, INS Talwar, and the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, where he was the commissioning Commanding Officer.

In his pivotal shore roles, Vice Admiral Berry led transformative projects, such as the implementation of the Agnipath scheme and the groundbreaking introduction of women sailors, significantly advancing the Navy's human resources development.
As Vice Admiral Berry steps down, he reaffirms his enduring dedication to the nation, emphasizing India's maritime legacy as a foundational element of the vision for Viksit Bharat 2047.
