Vice Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar Takes on New Role as Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff
Vice Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar has officially taken on the role of Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Doctrine, Organisation & Training) as of June 1, 2026.
Before this significant tri-services appointment, Vice Admiral Dhankhar held the position of Director General Project Seabird, where he managed the development of essential naval infrastructure and strategic maritime capabilities.
He succeeds Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, who has transitioned to the role of Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command.
At the ceremony, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC), alongside the entire staff of the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, congratulated Vice Admiral Dhankhar and wished him success in his new role.
In his capacity as Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Doctrine, Organisation & Training), Vice Admiral Dhankhar is set to play a pivotal role in advancing joint military doctrines, enhancing the interoperability of the three Services, and fostering greater integration across the Armed Forces.
This appointment arrives at a crucial juncture as the Indian military continues its push for reforms focused on strengthening jointness, theatre-level integration, and operational synergy among the tri-services.
