On February 21, 2026, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, officially opened 300 new housing units at Karwar. These accommodations, intended for senior sailors and defence civilians, are part of the prominent Project Seabird initiative.

The newly launched housing facilities boast modern amenities and a contemporary design, marking a significant enhancement of infrastructure at the strategically critical Karwar naval base.
