Vice Admiral B Sivakumar Reviews Operational Readiness at Naval Ship Repair Yard Karwar
On March 13, 2026, Vice Admiral B. Sivakumar, AVSM, VSM, who serves as the Chief of Materiel for the Indian Navy, conducted a visit to the Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY) in Karwar. The purpose was to evaluate the facility's readiness and its capability to manage maintenance operations.
During his visit, the Admiral received a briefing concerning the yard's ability to cope with an increasing refit workload and the operational demands of Indian Navy ships. Discussions also included recent capability enhancements and plans for future projects.

Vice Admiral Sivakumar proceeded to tour the shop floors at NSRY Karwar, where he engaged with the workforce. He commended their dedication and professionalism in fulfilling the Navy's maintenance and repair needs.
Additionally, he inaugurated a state-of-the-art Communications Laboratory, designed to enhance technical capacities and meet modern naval maintenance demands.

The visit concluded with Vice Admiral Sivakumar addressing officers at the yard, where he emphasized the necessity of evolving maintenance strategies in light of the rapid growth of Indian Navy combatants.

He stressed the importance of focusing on essential maintenance tasks, improving efficiency, and embracing technological advancements to ensure that naval platforms remain operationally available.
