The UPSC has issued the written result in PDF format, with roll-number-wise and name-wise lists available on its official website. Candidates do not need login credentials to check whether they have qualified for the interview stage.

To access the result, candidates must visit the UPSC website, go to the Written Results section or the “What’s New” section, open the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026 link, and download the relevant PDF. They can then use Ctrl + F on Windows or Command + F on Mac to search for their roll number or name. The downloaded PDF should be saved for future reference. The name-wise list is described as a detailed multi-page document.

What qualified candidates must do next

Candidates shortlisted for the Personality Test must complete an online form submission on upsconline.nic.in between 11 November and 25 November 2026, up to 6:00 PM IST. They are required to verify their details, make any necessary corrections and submit the form within the prescribed period. The UPSC has made clear that even candidates whose information has not changed must complete this process. Failure to do so will result in the e-Summon Letter not being issued.

Candidates who had declared their educational qualification status as “appearing” in the application process must update those details and upload proof of qualification. The commission will later verify original certificates supporting eligibility and reservation claims, including age, educational qualifications, community status, EWS and PwBD categories, among others.

The e-Summon Letters for the interview will be made available online only. No physical letters will be issued. The interviews will be held at Dholpur House, New Delhi, and the schedule will be announced separately. Until all verification is complete, candidature will remain provisional.

Comparison with the previous year

Stage CSE 2025 CSE 2026
Qualified Prelims 14,161 13,343

The number of candidates shortlisted for the interview stage this year is 210 fewer than in 2025. The lower figure is broadly in line with the smaller vacancy count for the 2026 examination. On the basis of the vacancy estimate provided in the notification, roughly 2.5 candidates have been shortlisted per vacancy.

Cut-off trends and mark-sheet release

The UPSC has not released individual Mains marks or category-wise cut-offs along with the written result. As per the usual practice, mark sheets will be uploaded within 15 days of the declaration of the final result and will remain accessible for 30 days.

For context, the recent General category Mains cut-offs, out of 1,750, have been 739 in 2025, 729 in 2024, 741 in 2023, 748 in 2022 and 745 in 2021. These figures are only indicative. The official cut-off for 2026 will be known only after the final result is announced.

What candidates should do now

Those who have qualified should first complete the required online form submission within the specified window. They should then begin preparation for the Personality Test, with attention to current affairs, questions based on the Detailed Application Form, ethical judgement and clarity of thought. They should also keep all original documents ready for verification.

For candidates who have not qualified, the immediate next step is to review their performance and identify areas that need improvement. The next Civil Services Examination cycle, CSE 2027, is expected to be notified in early 2027, with the Preliminary Examination likely in May 2027.

The UPSC has advised candidates to rely only on official updates available at upsc.gov.in and upsconline.nic.in for accurate and updated information.

All details are based on the official UPSC notice dated 5 November 2026 and contemporaneous reporting. Marks and final cut-offs remain unreleased as of the written result declaration.
