Trump Claims He Facilitated India-Pakistan Ceasefire Amid Aerial Confrontation

US President Donald Trump has reiterated his claim that he facilitated the ceasefire between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, stating that between six and seven aircraft were downed in the conflict.

Addressing the media from the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump declared, “I have resolved six conflicts in the past six months. I’m very proud of that achievement. In the case of Pakistan and India, aircraft were being shot down, with six or seven planes falling. They were on the verge of going nuclear, and we resolved that.”

The Indian Armed Forces initiated Operation Sindoor following a fatal terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Indian forces executed targeted strikes on nine terrorist camps situated in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), actions which New Delhi described as a “decisive blow” to cross-border terrorism.

India has consistently denied any involvement by a third country in the decision to cease operations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed Parliament that the proposal for a ceasefire was made by Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), with India agreeing only after fulfilling “100% of its mission objectives.”

Relations between Washington and New Delhi have become strained following the Trump administration’s imposition of a 50% tariff on all Indian imports, a move linked to India’s acquisition of Russian oil. Meanwhile, Pakistan has openly acknowledged Trump’s role in halting the conflict and has even nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump’s remarks come on the eve of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, where they will discuss the ongoing situation in Ukraine. The US president expressed “cautious optimism” regarding the potential for peace between Moscow and Kyiv, while admitting that an immediate ceasefire might not be achievable.

“We’ll see if they can get along. And if they can, it will be great,” Trump remarked. “If it’s a bad meeting, it’ll end very quickly. If it’s a good meeting, we could be looking at peace in the near future.”
