Trump Calls for Immediate Ceasefire Between Cambodia and Thailand Amidst Border Conflict

On Saturday, US President Donald Trump urged Cambodia and Thailand to implement an immediate ceasefire amid an escalating border conflict that has entered its third day. Trump communicated with leaders from both nations in an attempt to reduce the violence.

Through his Truth Social platform, Trump announced, “Just spoke to the Prime Minister of Cambodia relative to stopping the war with Thailand. I have just spoken to the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand, and it was a very good conversation.”

He further noted that both countries showed a willingness to seek peace. “Thailand, like Cambodia, wants to have an immediate ceasefire, and peace. I am now going to relay that message back to the Prime Minister of Cambodia. After speaking to both parties, ceasefire, peace, and prosperity seems to be a natural. We will soon see!”

The conflict originated from disputes over ancient temple sites and has extended to coastal areas near the Gulf of Thailand, approximately 250 kilometers southwest of the primary border zones. The fighting, which has resulted in at least 33 fatalities, has disrupted rural communities dependent on rubber and rice agriculture.

Drawing parallels to other conflicts, Trump stated, “I am trying to simplify a complex situation. Many people are being killed in this war, but it very much reminds me of the conflict between Pakistan and India, which was brought to a successful halt.”

He cautioned that the United States would postpone trade agreements with both Cambodia and Thailand until the conflict is resolved.

The international community remains vigilant as diplomatic efforts to resolve the situation intensify.
