BSF Constable Traced in Delhi After Going Missing from Srinagar Unit, Initiates Unauthorized Journey Home

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan who had disappeared from his unit headquarters in Srinagar has been located in Delhi while en route to his home in Uttar Pradesh, according to officials on Friday.
Constable Sugam Choudhary, who was assigned to ‘C’ Company of the 60th Battalion, went missing from the Panthachowk area of Srinagar on Thursday evening. In response, both the BSF and local police launched an extensive search operation and filed a missing person report at the Panthachowk Police Station.
Search efforts were concentrated on nearby areas, including bus stands, taxi stands, and the Nowgam Railway Station, but initial attempts to locate him were unsuccessful. Later, a senior BSF officer confirmed that the constable had been found in Delhi.
The officer stated that Choudhary was traveling towards his home without obtaining the necessary permission. A departmental investigation has been launched to examine the circumstances of his actions. The officer also dismissed any notion of a subversive motive behind the incident.
Additional information is expected following the recording of the trooper's statement.
This incident occurs amid heightened security protocols in Jammu and Kashmir following a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 civilians were killed by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists based in Pakistan.
Security forces continue to enhance their counter-terrorism operations across the Union Territory, focusing on neutralizing terrorists, their overground workers, and sympathisers to disrupt the terror infrastructure.
