Surgeon Rear Admiral Samir Kapoor Takes Command as Western Naval Command's Medical Officer

Surgeon Rear Admiral Samir Kapoor took over as the Command Medical Officer of the Western Naval Command on May 29, 2026.

With over 35 years of distinguished service, Surg RAdm Kapoor has a wealth of experience in various command, staff, and operational roles within the Armed Forces medical establishment.

Kapoor is an alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, and holds a Doctorate in Aerospace Medicine from the Institute of Aerospace Medicine in Bengaluru. He is renowned for his expertise in military and aerospace medicine.

Throughout his career, the Flag Officer has commanded INHS Nivarini and held significant staff roles at Naval Headquarters, Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, and the Andaman and Nicobar Command.

Before taking up his current post at the Western Naval Command, he was the Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Medical) at HQ IDS and later served as the Command Medical Officer at Southern Naval Command. In these roles, he greatly influenced the enhancement of medical support systems and healthcare services for naval personnel.

In his new role as Command Medical Officer of the Western Naval Command, Surg RAdm Kapoor will be responsible for overseeing medical services, healthcare infrastructure, and operational medical support for this crucial maritime command of the Indian Navy.

His leadership is anticipated to boost medical preparedness, healthcare delivery, and operational medical support, significantly impacting the wellbeing of naval personnel and their families in the Western Naval Command.
