Surgeon Rear Admiral Jandhyala Sridhar Takes Charge as Eastern Naval Command Medical Officer

Surgeon Rear Admiral Jandhyala Sridhar took charge as the Command Medical Officer at Headquarters Eastern Naval Command on October 1, 2026, bringing more than three decades of service in the Indian Navy to one of the service’s key medical leadership appointments.

Commissioned into the Indian Navy on June 30, 1993, he is an alumnus of Timpany School, Visakhapatnam, and the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. A specialist in Dermatology, Surgeon Rear Admiral Sridhar has built a career spanning operational medical support, hospital leadership, specialist clinical work and medical education.

During his career, he has held several important appointments in the naval medical establishment. He served as Commanding Officer of INHS Kalyani, Visakhapatnam, including during the COVID-19 period, when the military medical system played a crucial support role in maintaining healthcare readiness and responding to the public health emergency.

He later served as Director and Dean of the Institute of Naval Medicine at INHS Asvini, Mumbai. He has also been posted as Senior Advisor at INHS Asvini and INHS Sanjivani, adding to his experience across major naval medical institutions.

Before taking up his current assignment, Surgeon Rear Admiral Sridhar was serving as Consultant Dermatology at Command Hospital (Eastern Command), Kolkata. His movement to Headquarters Eastern Naval Command places him at the centre of medical administration for the Navy’s eastern maritime command structure.

In addition to his service appointments, he has contributed significantly to medical education. He is a postgraduate examiner for the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), the National Board of Examinations (NBE) and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), reflecting his involvement in training and assessing the next generation of medical professionals.

His new role as Command Medical Officer at Headquarters Eastern Naval Command combines clinical, administrative and institutional responsibilities within the Indian Navy’s medical framework. With experience across naval hospitals, specialist practice and education, Surgeon Rear Admiral Sridhar assumes the appointment with a broad professional background shaped by long service in the force.
