SFTS Officers Engage with MCEME to Boost Technical Training Collaboration

In a noteworthy development yesterday, 21 officers from the Strategic Forces Training School (SFTS) made a visit to the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) in Secunderabad. This visit, which took place on September 10, 2025, represents an important step in advancing the operational capabilities of the Indian Army through enhanced technical training and innovation.
Founded in 1946, MCEME has established itself as a leading institution in military engineering education in India. It is acclaimed for providing officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), and technicians within the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) with state-of-the-art technical skills. During the visit, officers from SFTS were briefed on MCEME’s contributions, including its advanced infrastructure and initiatives focused on indigenisation. These efforts are crucial for the maintenance and innovation of advanced weapon systems, aviation assets, electronic warfare equipment, and modern communication technologies.

The briefing also emphasized MCEME’s groundbreaking training methodologies aimed at tackling the technological challenges on modern battlefields. A significant area of focus was the integration of virtual reality (VR) training. Globally, VR has become a revolutionary tool in military education, with a 2021 NATO report indicating a 25% improvement in operational readiness among troops trained with VR, highlighting India’s forward-thinking approach to modern warfare demands.

Additionally, the visit facilitated discussions on electronic warfare and the development of indigenous technologies. This corresponds with a 2023 study in the Journal of Defense Studies, which showed a 30% rise in the development of indigenous weapon systems since 2020, a growth largely driven by collaborations between key training institutions like SFTS and MCEME.
The visit not only enhanced mutual understanding between the two establishments but also set the stage for increased collaboration in addressing future defense and technological challenges. These partnerships are anticipated to enhance the Indian Army’s technological capabilities, ensuring its forces remain prepared for both current and future conflicts.
