Seven Indian Army Troops Injured in Jammu and Kashmir Clash During Operation Trashi-I

In a significant encounter, seven soldiers from the Indian Army were wounded amid a fierce exchange with terrorists in Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday. This clash occurred as part of a major security effort named Operation Trashi-I.

Official reports indicate that the confrontation unfolded in the Sonnar area, positioned northeast of Chatroo. The Army, alongside Jammu and Kashmir Police, engaged with the terrorists during a targeted search operation initiated around midday. In a bid to escape the security perimeter, the terrorists unleashed indiscriminate gunfire and hurled grenades.

The injured soldiers were swiftly taken to a hospital following a decisive counterattack by the troops, which helped stabilize the situation, according to officials.

A statement on X from the Army’s White Knight Corps, based in Jammu, confirmed the engagement and noted that operations are ongoing, with additional reinforcements deployed to bolster the cordon. The Army commended the troops for their "exceptional professionalism and resolve" under challenging terrain and weather conditions.

Security sources have identified two to three foreign terrorists, likely linked to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group, as being cornered in the forested area. Reinforcements from the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police have been dispatched to tighten the perimeter and prevent any escape.

To assist in the search operations, advanced surveillance tools, including drones and sniffer dogs, have been introduced to track movements in the dense forested zone.

Operation Trashi-I is the third such encounter in the Jammu region this year. Previous incidents were reported in the Kahog and Najote forests in Kathua district on January 7 and January 13. In December of the previous year, a police officer was killed in a separate incident in Udhampur, where terrorists managed to flee under the cover of darkness.

Officials have intensified counter-terror measures across the Jammu area following intelligence that suggests an increase in attempts by Pakistan-based operatives to infiltrate more terrorists, especially in the lead-up to Republic Day celebrations.

Security forces have called on civilians to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as efforts continue to neutralize the threat and ensure public safety.
