Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap Killed in Ambush on Assam Rifles Convoy in Manipur

In a poignant reminder of Manipur's persistent security challenges, Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap from the Assam Rifles was killed in an ambush on September 19, 2025. The attack, which took place near Nambol Sabal Leikai in Bishnupur district, targeted a convoy returning from a medical relief camp. This incident led to the deaths of two personnel and injuries to five others.
Rifleman Kashyap, originally from Bastar in Chhattisgarh, was part of the 33 Assam Rifles unit when the attack occurred. The convoy, traveling in a Tata 407 vehicle from Patsoi to Nambol, came under heavy gunfire from suspected terrorists, resulting in a fierce exchange that claimed his life and that of Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung. The wounded soldiers were swiftly transported to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for medical care.
Following the ambush, Manipur Police arrested two suspects and confiscated a silver-blue van suspected to have been used in the attack, found in Mutum Yangbi. Security forces have also ramped up operations in nearby areas such as Shantipur and Ishok to capture those responsible for the attack.

Rifleman Kashyap was honored with a wreath-laying ceremony in Raipur by troops from the Chhattisgarh and Odisha Sub Area. The ceremony celebrated his bravery and dedication, with the Indian Army's Central Command highlighting the event as a reflection of the indomitable courage exhibited by its personnel. Such tributes underscore the sacrifices made daily to protect the nation. Similar ceremonies were held in Manipur, expressing national gratitude for his commitment to duty.
This incident is part of a continued sequence of elevated tensions in the region, with reports suggesting it is one of several recent attacks on security forces. Authorities are maintaining vigilant monitoring of the situation to ensure stability and justice for those who have given their lives.
