Retired Major Overcomes War Injury to Secure UPSC Success: Nitish Kumar Singh's Inspiring Journey
Major Nitish Kumar Singh (Retd), a retired officer of the Indian Army and an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, has achieved success in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025, attaining an All India Rank (AIR) of 305.
Originating from Begusarai in Bihar, Major Singh sustained severe injuries during an anti-terrorism operation in Shopian, South Kashmir, in 2017. At the time, he was serving with the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME). Despite these debilitating injuries, he exhibited remarkable determination in overcoming his challenges and embarked on a new path of public service.
Unfazed by the adversities he faced, Major Singh prepared rigorously for one of the most challenging examinations in India and successfully earned a position in the civil services. He is now set to attend training at the esteemed Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie.
His transition from military service to administrative roles exemplifies a powerful narrative of perseverance and dedication, embodying the ethos of “Service Before Self.”
Major Singh's accomplishment serves as an inspiration to aspiring candidates and underscores the unwavering spirit of India's armed forces personnel, who continue to contribute to the nation in diverse roles beyond their military obligations.
