Rear Admiral Alok Ananda Assumes Command of Eastern Fleet

In a ceremonial parade of great significance at the Naval Base in Visakhapatnam, Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, YSM, officially took over as the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet (FOCEF) from Rear Admiral Susheel Menon, VSM. This change in leadership marks an important transition within the esteemed Eastern Fleet, often referred to as the Sword Arm of the Indian Navy.
The event was attended by officers, sailors, and families from the Eastern Fleet, exemplifying the Navy's steadfast traditions of professionalism, continuity, and camaraderie.
Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, commissioned into the Indian Navy in July 1993, is a distinguished alumnus of the Naval Academy, the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, and the National Defence College in Thailand.
Specializing in Navigation and Direction, he has occupied numerous key operational and staff roles, showcasing remarkable leadership and expertise throughout his notable naval journey. His command experience includes leading INS Satpura, a frontline stealth frigate, and INS Ghorpad, an amphibious warfare vessel.

Prior to leading the Eastern Fleet, Rear Admiral Alok Ananda served as the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy & Plans) at Naval Headquarters in New Delhi. In this capacity, he was instrumental in developing strategic initiatives, formulating policies, and advancing the long-term capabilities of the Indian Navy.

Situated at Visakhapatnam under the Eastern Naval Command, the Eastern Fleet is a crucial component of India's maritime force in the Bay of Bengal and Indo-Pacific region. It is responsible for protecting national maritime interests, maintaining control over the sea, and enhancing international naval collaborations. The fleet frequently engages in extensive operational deployments, participates in bilateral and multilateral exercises, and conducts humanitarian assistance missions.
