Probe Continues: Vehicle Involved in Lt Gen K S Mann's Fatal Hit-and-Run Remains Unidentified

Three days have passed since retired Lieutenant General K S Mann died from injuries in a hit-and-run incident, yet Panchkula Police have not identified the vehicle or driver involved, officials reported on Sunday.

The 83-year-old former Army officer was critically injured on Friday evening when an unidentified vehicle hit him. He was immediately taken to Command Hospital, Chandimandir, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. Investigators have been unable to trace the suspect, as there were no CCTV cameras at the accident location, posing a significant challenge.

Police noted the lack of surveillance at the scene where Lt Gen Mann was struck, which has greatly hindered their investigation. “We are reviewing footage from CCTV cameras in nearby areas to trace the movements of the suspected vehicle,” said Sub-Inspector Sukhwinder Singh, who is currently serving as the Station House Officer of the Mansa Devi Complex police station.

The post-mortem examination has been postponed pending the arrival of Lt Gen Mann’s son from the United States. Authorities will proceed with the procedure once the family has completed the required formalities.

Lt Gen Mann leaves behind his wife and two sons, one of whom is a serving Colonel in the Indian Army, while the other is an officer with the Canadian Police. He was also the sibling of Brigadier (late) Sukhi Mann, a distinguished officer of the Parachute Regiment.

Police have called on the public to aid in the investigation by providing any relevant information, such as eyewitness testimonies or dashcam footage, to help identify the vehicle and hold the responsible party accountable.

This incident has raised concerns about road safety and surveillance deficiencies, especially in areas frequently visited by senior citizens, prompting calls for enhanced monitoring to avert similar incidents in the future.
