President Murmu Leads 2025 Navy Day in Thiruvananthapuram, Highlights India’s Maritime Commitment

India's President, Smt Droupadi Murmu, led the Navy Day 2025 festivities held in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, where she observed an impressive operational display by the Indian Navy. The event highlighted the Navy's advanced capabilities and maritime prowess.

During her address to naval personnel, dignitaries, and citizens at the event, President Murmu emphasized that Navy Day is a tribute to the selfless service, professionalism, and sacrifices of the Indian Navy's men and women. She conveyed the nation's appreciation for their unwavering commitment, referring to them as the "sentinels of India’s seas."

In her remarks, President Murmu underscored the strategic significance of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), identifying it as a crucial maritime area for global trade and energy. She highlighted India's central role in this region, noting the country's "special responsibility."

Reiterating India's maritime policy, she stated, “We are committed to the idea of the oceans remaining open, stable, and rules-based. Guided by the vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, India’s approach is collaborative, not competitive.”

President Murmu stressed India's emphasis on shared maritime awareness, capacity-building, and the peaceful and lawful use of the seas.

The President also highlighted the expanding role of the Indian Navy—from deterring threats and securing the Exclusive Economic Zone to ensuring freedom of navigation, combating piracy, and responding to humanitarian crises across the IOR.

She praised the Navy for its prompt action as the "first responder" during emergencies, including evacuation missions, disaster relief, and humanitarian assistance operations. She mentioned that new initiatives under India's SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision will further bolster regional maritime security and cooperation.

Highlighting the nation's growing focus on the Blue Economy as a critical component of sustainable development, President Murmu stated that the Indian Navy plays a vital role in safeguarding sea routes, protecting marine resources, combating illegal activities, and supporting maritime scientific research.

“The Navy strengthens our vision of safe, prosperous, and sustainable oceans,” she remarked.

President Murmu commended the Navy's advancements in indigenous shipbuilding, technology, and innovation, expressing her satisfaction with the service's leadership in designing and constructing complex platforms domestically.

She expressed confidence that the Indian Navy will continue to drive technological self-reliance and significantly contribute to the nation's journey toward Viksit Bharat.

The Navy Day celebrations concluded with a powerful demonstration of naval operations, reaffirming India's maritime strength and the Navy's readiness to safeguard national interests across the seas.
