President Murmu Awards President's Police Colour to Sikkim Police
During a ceremonial event in Gangtok on Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu awarded the esteemed "President of India's Police Colour" to the Sikkim Police.
The President extended her congratulations to the officers and personnel of the Sikkim Police, acknowledging their commitment to maintaining peace, security, and justice in the state since their inception in 1897.

In her address to the attendees, President Murmu remarked that India's policing system still bears traces of a colonial era, where control over citizens was prioritized over service. She advocated for the complete removal of this colonial perspective to empower citizens and align with the vision of a developed India, or "Viksit Bharat."
The President emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and citizen-friendly policing to foster public trust. She stressed that citizens should feel confident in voicing grievances without intimidation and urged for greater sensitivity towards women, children, and vulnerable groups.

President Murmu expressed that the police should function as partners and advisors to the public rather than solely as enforcers of the law. This approach, she noted, would strengthen the relationship between the police and the community and enhance respect for legal frameworks.
She further elaborated on the expansive role of policing, stating that their responsibilities should encompass not only crime prevention but also fostering a secure, socially aware, and harmonious society.
The President commended the professional demeanor and community-oriented approach of the Sikkim Police, highlighting that their dedication has earned them the respect and affection of the people in Sikkim, contributing significantly to the peace and harmony in the state.
